Akmola Region Enhances Livestock Industry through Loans and Breeding Cattle
A delegation from Akmola Region visited France and Austria to study European approaches to cattle breeding and management. Regional representatives attended the SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE 2026 exhibition, visited breeding farms, selection centers, and dairy farms, and participated in an animal auction.
In Clermont-Ferrand, France, participants explored solutions in genetics, breeding, feed production, and digital farm management. Breeds showcased included Charolais, Limousin, Aubrac, Montbéliarde, and Simmental.
In Austria, meetings were held with representatives of Fleckvieh Austria, Genetic Austria, and the Austrian Agricultural Cluster. Discussions focused on breeding Simmental cattle known for both milk and meat productivity. The delegation also visited Austrian breeding enterprises and selection centers.
At the breeding cattle auction, farmers from Akmola Region assessed available offers and the possibility of acquiring cattle for local farms. Nurbek Badyrakov, head of the regional agriculture and land relations department, stated that prices are conducive to purchasing multi-purpose cattle. Discussions with foreign partners also covered livestock supplies to Kazakhstan and further cooperation.
"A comprehensive livestock development plan has been adopted in Akmola Region. Our task is to increase the cattle population and enhance farm productivity," said Badyrakov. He mentioned that the region will continue to participate in specialized exhibitions and auctions in France and Austria; currently, experts are evaluating offers for Simmental cattle and selecting multi-purpose animals.
Akmola Region became the first in Kazakhstan to practically implement preferential livestock lending programs "Igilik" and "Bereke." First agricultural producers have already received funding under the "Bereke" program, and farmers have started purchasing cattle abroad.
Through the "KOKSHE" social entrepreneurship corporation, about 15 billion tenge was allocated to the region. The Agricultural Credit Corporation plans to direct 26 billion tenge for both programs in the region.
