AI and Precision Technology Boost Mexican Dairy Industry

At the FONA Holstein forum held in Querétaro, MSD Animal Health highlighted the importance of adopting artificial intelligence and precision technologies to maintain the competitiveness of the dairy industry in Mexico over the next five years. Luis Gerardo González, Key Account Manager for Technological Solutions at MSD Animal Health in Mexico, stated that digitalization and modernization of dairy farms are crucial challenges for the Bajío region.

Querétaro has solidified its status as one of the country's most productive dairy regions, serving as an innovation hub. The automation of milking parlors, continuous milk flow monitoring, and strict quality controls have transformed operational profiles from traditional models to highly structured livestock enterprises reliant on technology and data.

González emphasized that the industry's evolution extends beyond immediate responses to animal health contingencies, focusing instead on preventive medicine and overall herd well-being. The principle that healthy, comfortable animals yield higher productivity and meet ethical and quality standards is gaining traction globally.

The forum showcased intelligent monitoring solutions for calves and young cattle, allowing real-time health and behavior data collection. This capability facilitates timely veterinary interventions, optimizing herd biological efficiency and reducing costs associated with curative treatments.

Mexico, producing approximately 77% of its national milk consumption, ranks as the second-largest bovine milk producer in Latin America and eighth worldwide. To maintain this self-sufficiency, integrating AI and automation tools is seen as essential to safeguarding farmers' profitability against economic and climatic challenges.
