Agronegocios: Colombian cow Lucero reportedly produces 102.7 litres of milk
An earlier competition result came from ExpoCaquetá in October 2025, where Heredera, a Girolando cow from Ganadería La Estrella, yielded 97.9 litres over 36 hours. She received the competition’s grand-champion award.
Ganadería La Estrella had also recorded a notable result at ExpoCaquetá in 2021. A different cow from the establishment produced 91.1 litres across three milkings.
At ExpoDoncello in September 2026, a competing cow yielded 93 litres over three milkings, according to information circulated about that event.
The volume attributed to Lucero exceeds Heredera’s 2025 figure by 4.8 litres. According to the report, recognition of Lucero’s result as a national record would depend on confirmation of the technical conditions and comparability with earlier measurements. A valid comparison requires equivalent production periods and measurement conditions.
The report identifies genetics, the stage of lactation, feeding, herd management and animal health as factors affecting a cow’s milk output. It also notes the importance of distinguishing a single milking from a volume accumulated over several hours.
Cattle farming is a significant activity in Colombia’s Caquetá department, particularly through dual-purpose systems producing both milk and meat. Regional milk-yield competitions showcase selected animals and recognise breeders’ work on genetics and production management.
