Advanced Dairy Workshop Addresses Farm Finance and Labor
The programme is designed for commercial dairy principals, financial controllers and agribusiness consultants. It will examine how larger milk-production operations can apply enterprise governance beyond conventional herd-productivity measures, with participants testing farm balance sheets against economic volatility and limits on capital.
Financial sessions will cover the reading of multi-year accounts, cash-flow projections, debt-service coverage and capital-allocation standards. Participants will work with balance-sheet examples to calculate viable break-even milk prices, assess machinery depreciation periods and determine leverage levels before investing in parlour automation or expanding herds.
The training also addresses the cost and operational implications of staffing dairy farms. Modules will discuss employee-retention arrangements, pay structures and compliance requirements for agricultural employers. Managers will review approaches to resolving workplace disputes, bilingual induction processes and incentive plans intended to limit staff turnover in parlour, drylot and free-stall operations.
Another part of the curriculum concerns succession and the transfer of wealth between generations. Family-owned and corporate dairy businesses will be presented with material on corporate structures, tax-preferred transition mechanisms and buy-sell agreements. The programme also considers governance arrangements for multi-partner farms, including the separation of business administration from family ownership.
The listed day topics include dairy butterfat and protein levels, commercial cheese production, artisanal cheddar processing, the market for imported infant formula and dairy-farm financial management. These subjects form part of the broader executive-level curriculum rather than replacing its emphasis on finance and labour management.
Participants can receive continuing-education recognition of up to 12.5 Dairy AdvanCE credits. The accreditation is intended to document technical training in operational and fiduciary areas. The event is scheduled for late October 2026 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and is structured as a two-day capstone workshop.
