Aavin's New Ice Cream Plant in Trichy Set to Boost Regional Dairy Production
Aavin's Tiruchy District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union is ready to commence production at its new ice cream and fermented dairy plant located in Kottapattu, Tamil Nadu. The plant, which required an investment of ₹21.57 crore, was developed under India’s Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund. Trial runs for both ice cream and products like lassi, curd, and buttermilk have been successfully conducted, signaling the cooperative's focus on value-added dairy processing.
The plant is equipped to process up to 16 lakh litres of product daily, with the capability to produce approximately 6,000 litres of ice cream and 10,000 litres of fermented dairy products. These products will be distributed locally in Tiruchy and its neighboring districts, enhancing the availability of Aavin products in the region.
The cooperative sources about 5.20 lakh litres of milk daily from 54,000 members across 573 societies in Tiruchy, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts. Previously, value-added products were transported from other regions, but local production will reduce dependence on external supply and improve market presence.
Civil works and machinery installation began in 2023, and with these now complete, Aavin plans to distribute products further afield, including to districts such as Karur, Pudukottai, and others. The new facility underscores Aavin's commitment to expanding its regional market and enhancing dairy product availability.
