The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has nearly achieved full self-sufficiency in milk: by the end of 2025, the figure reached 98.8%, according to Naira Karapetyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
98.8% Self-Sufficiency: EAEU Nearly Fulfills Milk Demand

According to her, over the past three years, milk and dairy production in the union countries increased by 5%, as a result of industry modernization and the expansion of the raw material base.

"The level of self-sufficiency of the union in milk, according to preliminary results for 2025, amounted to 98.8%," stated Naira Karapetyan.

A high level of self-sufficiency means that EAEU countries almost completely meet domestic demand with their own products, reducing dependence on imports.

This is especially important against the backdrop of:

  • increased consumption of dairy products,

  • global food market volatility,

  • enhanced food sovereignty policies.

The Eurasian Economic Commission also announced the extension of financial support mechanisms for cooperative projects to the agro-industrial complex, including the dairy sector.

This refers to a program that will allow:

  • financing joint dairy projects of EAEU countries,

  • modernizing processing enterprises,

  • creating new production capacities,

  • strengthening the integration of the union's dairy markets.

This mechanism was previously applied mainly in industry and was launched in 2024.
