The USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) have commenced construction of a cutting-edge dairy research facility in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.

This initiative, celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony, will enhance the longstanding partnership between the two organizations, aiming to provide innovative solutions to challenges facing dairy farms nationwide, according to a news release from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the new US Dairy Forage Research Center will span a 42-acre site in Prairie du Sac, WI. The state-of-the-art facility will feature robotic milking systems, chambers for measuring greenhouse gas emissions, an advanced animal nutrition unit, and modern laboratories dedicated to agronomy and dairy science. Additionally, the complex will include offices and a visitor center, further supporting research and community engagement.
