Will Balhatchet of George Farm Vets in Malmesbury has been honored with the prestigious Young Dairy Vet of the Year award at the CREAM Awards, hosted by British Dairying magazine. The event took place on September 5 in Kenilworth, celebrating excellence within the dairy industry.
Balhatchet was recognized for his commitment to improving the health, welfare, and productivity of dairy herds under his care. His ability to provide clear, actionable advice and develop practical solutions to complex problems earned him high praise from the judges. Key achievements noted include his development of an embryo transfer service and the establishment of a robotic milking discussion group—both initiatives have significantly enhanced dairy farm efficiency and sustainability.
Reflecting on the accolade, Balhatchet stated, "It’s an incredible honor to receive this award. However, the recognition truly belongs to the farmers I collaborate with, whose forward-thinking approaches have enabled me to grow professionally.”
Before joining George Farm Vets, Balhatchet gained hands-on experience as a herdsman in Cornwall, a role that complemented his academic studies at the University of Surrey.
In addition to Balhatchet’s success, the George Vet Group’s clients, Nick and Lucy Tyler of Kingsplay Farming Company Ltd, were awarded the Climate Positive Agriculture Award. Their 850-acre farm, which supports 450 cows and 400 youngstock, was acknowledged for its innovative efforts in reducing agricultural emissions and implementing sustainable farming practices.
The George Vet Group, based in Malmesbury, provides veterinary care across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Bristol, delivering expert services to a broad spectrum of dairy farmers in the region.
