Saputo Dairy Australia (SDA) has stepped up its support for local communities, contributing $10,000 toward the installation of a new electronic scoreboard at Purnim Recreation Reserve in south-west Victoria.

The initiative, part of SDA’s Legacy Program, underscores the company’s commitment to fostering community development and promoting healthy lifestyles. Since 2018, the program has funded 12 regional projects across the country.

Grant Hutcheson, SDA’s regional operations manager (west), highlighted the significance of the Purnim project. “Purnim Recreation Reserve is just 15 minutes from our Allansford dairy processing facility and sits in the heart of our milk supply region. It’s a vital hub for sports, recreation, and community events,” he said.

The advanced scoreboard, compatible with laptops and equipped to display images, videos, and live feeds, will serve multiple purposes. “We’re proud to support this modern facility that benefits local sports clubs, schools, and the wider community,” Hutcheson added.

Purnim Recreation Reserve president Mick McKinnon praised the contribution, noting the reserve’s long-standing importance. “For 70 years, the reserve has been a cornerstone for Purnim, Grassmere, and the broader Moyne Shire district. This new scoreboard will elevate game days, training sessions, and even wider community events,” McKinnon said.

The reserve, operated by a volunteer committee under the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, features two cricket ovals, a community pavilion, and serves as a regional emergency assembly point. It’s home to the Northern Raiders Cricket Club and regularly hosts schools, sports, and local groups.

SDA’s Legacy Program has also supported initiatives such as the Cycling Without Age project, wayfinding signage along the Warrnambool foreshore, and a cricket training facility for the Allansford-Panmure Cricket Club, solidifying its role in enhancing community infrastructure across south-west Victoria.
