Production of whole milk powder in Russia increased by 24% in the first quarter of 2025

Consumption of whole milk powder (WMP) in January–February also showed a comparable increase of 24.4%, reaching 19.2 thousand tons. Despite the seasonal nature of WMP usage, the data indicate a steady recovery in demand from both processors and the retail segment.
The highest quarterly WMP production volume in recent years was recorded in 2023 at 21.5 thousand tons. Thus, current figures are approaching historic highs.
Growth was also observed in other categories of dry dairy products. Production of skimmed milk powder (SMP) in the first quarter rose by 15.6% to 26.8 thousand tons, while dry whey output increased by only 3.5%, reaching 55.8 thousand tons. At the same time, domestic consumption of dry whey declined by 0.8% to 33.6 thousand tons.
In the long term, the market has shown steady growth. From 2020 to 2023, production of skimmed milk powder increased from 54.9 thousand tons to 93 thousand tons. However, in 2024 there was a decline to 79 thousand tons, which experts attribute to a market correction following a period of high prices and unstable export logistics.
