President William Ruto has issued a directive to New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC), urging them to raise the price of farmers' milk from Sh45 to Sh50.

This announcement was made during the inauguration of the upgraded New KCC facility in Nyahururu, where the President emphasized the importance of maintaining consistent milk prices throughout the year.
"I want to tell the management of KCC that we had earlier agreed that farmers should be paid Sh50. Starting March 1, the company should pay up the amount we agreed on so that we can chase away hawkers who make business difficult," President Ruto declared.
He further emphasized his commitment to fulfilling promises made during campaigns, stating, "We want to make sure that the farmers have a ready market when they produce milk and are paid on time so that they become independent."
President Ruto directed KCC to implement the increased payment consecutively for the next three months, with additional instructions to transition to a bi-monthly payment schedule from July 1, 2024. He asserted that these measures were essential to ensure farmers receive their payments promptly, aligning with the regular pay cycles observed in other sectors.
In a bid to support farmers facing financial challenges, President Ruto also announced his intention to address outstanding debts. "Let us first start with the 15 days and ensure that the farmers are paid. I am going to order those who have debts to pay up their dues. The government will also pay the debts," he assured.
President Ruto's directive aims to create a fair and stable environment for farmers, fostering economic independence and strengthening the agricultural sector.
