The Korea-Nepal Model Dairy Village was officially inaugurated today in Kamalamai municipality-5, Sindhuli, with the presence of distinguished guests including Republic of Korea's ambassador to Nepal, Park Tae Yong, Dr. Rewati Raman Poudel, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, and Upendra Kumar Pokhrel, Mayor of Kamalamai municipality.
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of a Holstein female calf, marking the first successful breeding of its kind in Nepal. The calf was graciously handed over to local farmer Uma Subedi, symbolizing a promising step forward for the region's agricultural development.
This noteworthy accomplishment was made possible through the generous support of Heifer International, which had previously provided Holstein cows to 50 families in the area. As part of the initiative, a unique condition was established, wherein the first farmer witnessing the breeding of a female calf would pay it forward by gifting the animal to another farmer.
Expressing his pleasure at being part of this momentous occasion, Ambassador Park Tae Yong remarked that the event coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Nepal and the Republic of Korea. He emphasized that the establishment of the model dairy village would not only foster local development but also contribute significantly to strengthening bilateral ties.
Secretary Rewati Raman Poudel, describing the inauguration as the culmination of a year-long effort, pledged unwavering support to farmers, particularly in establishing a robust market for their dairy products. Mayor Upendra Kumar Pokhrel echoed this commitment, assuring assistance to farmers in expanding Holstein cow farming, promoting production, and identifying lucrative markets for their agricultural products. The collective efforts showcased at the inauguration reflect a promising trajectory for the future of dairy farming in the region.
