Lactalis Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Portuguese Cheese Brand Sequeira & Sequeira

In a strategic move, French dairy giant Lactalis has finalized the purchase of Sequeira & Sequeira, the proprietor of the renowned Paiva cheese brand.
Sequeira & Sequeira, initially established as a wholesaler, made its foray into food production in 1992 with the acquisition of Lacticínios do Paiva, a distinguished cheesemaker tracing its origins back to 1933.
With this recent acquisition, Lactalis, renowned for its President, Galbani, and Parmalat brands, assumes control over the dairy production operations of Lacticínios do Paiva. Additionally, it inherits Sequeira & Sequeira's wholesale operations across Portugal, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
This transaction brings approximately 270 skilled professionals from the Sequeira & Sequeira group into Lactalis, augmenting the existing workforce of about 450 employees in Portugal.
Expanding its footprint, Lactalis now boasts two manufacturing facilities in Portugal, courtesy of Sequeira & Sequeira's founding in 1986 in Vouzela and the subsequent establishment of Lacticínios do Paiva's Lamego plant. Through these facilities, a diverse array of cheeses, ranging from traditional flamengos and curados to fresh varieties under the flagship brand Paiva, are meticulously crafted, enriching the company's product portfolio and market presence.
