IDFA Statement on U.S.-UK Trade Deal Outline

Michael Dykes, D.V.M., the president and CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association, issued a statement regarding the anticipated release of a U.S.-UK trade deal. He applauded the announcement by President Trump that terms had been reached for expanding trade between the two countries. This deal is expected to benefit U.S. agriculture with up to $5 billion in new market access. The IDFA is keen on ensuring U.S. dairy products, which amounted to $19.5 million in exports to the UK last year, are part of this expansion.

Dykes emphasized that the deal promises to open the UK market further to American agricultural exports by reducing tariffs and removing barriers. "For too long, the UK has limited America’s food and agricultural exports to the world’s sixth largest economy," he stated, noting that the agreement would equalize market opportunities. The IDFA eagerly awaits details on the specific provisions that will enhance market access for U.S. dairy products. The U.S. dairy sector, noted for its quality and affordability, looks forward to reaching more consumers in the UK.

The International Dairy Foods Association represents an industry that supports 3.2 million jobs, generating $49 billion in direct wages and $794 billion in economic impact. Its members are at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, ensuring the global competitiveness of U.S. dairy products.
