Graham’s The Family Dairy, Scotland’s largest independent dairy, has strategically invested £2 million in its Nairn facility to capitalize on the growing demand for protein-rich yoghurts and drinks. This significant investment has resulted in the creation of 10 new jobs and a substantial increase in production capacity, further solidifying the company’s position in the fast-growing health drinks market.

Over the past 18 months, the family-owned business, led by Managing Director Robert Graham, has focused on enhancing its Nairn site, located in the Balmakeith Industrial Estate. The facility now employs nearly 80 people and has become a key hub for producing a variety of health-focused dairy products, including the newly launched Greek yogurt pouches available in natural, strawberry, and honey flavors. These 150g pouches, containing up to 14g of natural protein and free from sweeteners, have quickly gained traction across Scottish supermarkets.

The Nairn facility, which produces over 1,000 tons of dairy products monthly, has seen its highest-ever sales figures for yogurt and protein drinks earlier this year, with expectations for continued growth and additional job creation. The recent investment has been directed toward increasing yogurt pot packing capacity, acquiring a state-of-the-art pouch filler, and installing a new sleeving system for the popular Protein 25 drinks.

The focus on protein and cultured products, such as Kefir drinks and Protein 25, represents a strategic shift for the Nairn site, which has moved away from traditional liquid milk production towards higher-value, health-oriented offerings. Despite the transition, the facility continues to supply significant quantities of liquid milk to regions across the Highlands, Moray, and Aberdeen.

Graham’s The Family Dairy, with its headquarters in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, has a rich history dating back to 1939. Today, the company employs around 650 people and generates an annual turnover of approximately £150 million, with half of its revenue coming from within Scotland. The firm has also seen growing export success, particularly in Ireland and the Middle East, and is actively promoting the benefits of protein consumption through initiatives like its 30-day Powered challenge, in collaboration with Loughborough University.

This latest investment in Nairn is a testament to Graham’s commitment to innovation and growth, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of the dairy industry in both domestic and international markets.
