First Milk, the farmer-owned dairy co-operative, has announced a 0.6 pence per litre (ppl) increase in its member milk price, effective from 1st October 2024. This adjustment will bring the price for a manufacturing standard litre, including the member premium, to 42.6ppl.
Mike Smith, Vice Chairman and Former Director of First Milk, expressed satisfaction with the price increase, highlighting the co-operative's robust financial performance. "We are delighted to raise our milk price once again, which we are able to do because of the continued healthy performance of our business. This is more welcome news for our members as they head into the Autumn, following challenging on-farm conditions from Spring and all through Summer," Smith said.
The latest price increase reflects First Milk’s commitment to supporting its members through fluctuating market conditions, ensuring that farmers receive stable and competitive returns for their milk. As the dairy sector continues to navigate various challenges, this move is seen as a positive step in providing financial reassurance to First Milk’s members as they prepare for the autumn season.
