The President of Brazil has sanctioned Law 14.870/24, designating July 12 as the National Day of the Milk Producer. The legislation, initially proposed in the House of Representatives as PL 6.487/2019, was later advocated in the Senate Agriculture Committee by Senator Jayme Campos (União-MT).

Brazil, maintaining annual production at around 35 billion liters, stands as the world’s third-largest milk producer. Despite this, significant growth has been noted in specific regions, highlighting the sector's expanding footprint in the national economy.

The milk industry not only bolsters Brazilian agribusiness but also plays a pivotal role in societal development through substantial contributions to job and income creation, according to research by Rocha et al., 2020. It engages a diverse range of producers, from small family farms to large-scale operations.

Nutritionally, milk is indispensable, providing essential nutrients such as calcium, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and minerals, making it a cornerstone of a healthy diet.

During the report presentation at the CRA, Senator Campos underscored the dairy sector’s critical role in both national food security and economic stability. He highlighted the sector's expanding export activities, particularly to markets in China and Russia. Campos also noted the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, which champions the establishment of World Milk Day as part of its broader mission to combat hunger and poverty by improving food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
