The launch was celebrated with appearances from Bollywood actress Sanya Malhotra, Mr. Takashi Ariyoshi, the Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Japan in India, and key figures from Yakult Danone India.

"Yakult Light Mango" is a new variant maintaining the same beneficial Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain found in the original Yakult, invented by Dr. Minoru Shirota in the early 20th century. Dr. Shirota pioneered this probiotic to combat infections linked to poor hygiene by boosting gut health. This new flavor aims to deliver the well-known health benefits of the original product, combined with a mango taste to cater to the Indian palate.

Available from 25th July 2024, a pack of five bottles will be priced at Rs. 100 and available across 28 states and 5 union territories. In addition to retail availability, Yakult employs nearly 300 'Yakult Ladies' who deliver the products directly to customers' homes in key cities including Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Pune. Yakult products are also available through e-commerce platforms.

Mr. Eiji Amano, Managing Director at Yakult Danone India, emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing gut health through its unique probiotic strain. "With over 200,000 bottles consumed daily in India, Yakult has become an integral part of many families’ daily routines. The new 'Yakult Light Mango' flavour will cater to the Indian consumer’s preference for mango, adding a delicious option that maintains all the health benefits of our classic product," he stated.

At the launch, Sanya Malhotra expressed her enthusiasm for the new product. "Given the rise in lifestyle disorders linked to modern living, maintaining gut health through probiotics like Yakult is essential. I’m thrilled about the introduction of the 'Yakult Light Mango' Flavour, which combines health with the delightful taste of mango, a national favorite," she commented.

Dr. Neerja Hajela, Head of Science and Regulatory Affairs at Yakult Danone India, pointed out the scientific backing of the Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain, supported by over 100 human studies worldwide, including in India. "Probiotics play a crucial role in increasing beneficial gut bacteria, which is vital for digestion, nutrient absorption, and immunity. Introducing proven probiotic products into the daily diet is key to maintaining good gut health and overall wellbeing," she added.
