In June 2024, Wisconsin farmers faced varying fortunes as commodity prices displayed a mixture of increases and declines compared to the previous month and the same period in 2023.
Grain Prices:
Corn: The price of corn fell to $4.24 per bushel, a notable $1.00 decrease from June 2023.
Soybeans: Despite a $1.10 increase from May, soybean prices remained below last year’s levels, closing at $12.80 per bushel.
Oats: Oat prices saw a significant drop, averaging $2.90 per bushel.
Hay Market:
All Hay: Prices surged to $190 per ton, up $13 from May.
Alfalfa Hay: Alfalfa hay prices climbed to $199 per ton.
Other Hay: Although prices grew, they still remained below May levels.
Dairy Sector:
Milk: Milk prices rose to $22.10 per cwt, reflecting a $5.70 increase compared to June 2023.
Milk Cows: The price for milk cows intended for dairy herd replacement also increased, reaching $2,650 per head.
