Startups Will Face a New Challenge in Brazil’s Dairy Industry
The SILEMG Lab initiative is focused on two operational issues in the dairy industry. One is identifying where milk losses occur along the supply chain. The other is assessing how logistics affects companies’ financial performance.
The programme is being organised in Minas Gerais, a major centre of Brazil’s dairy production. The FIEMG bulletin on Brazil’s and Minas Gerais’s dairy industries reported that the state accounted for 24.7% of all raw milk purchased and processed in Brazil during the first quarter of the year.
Projects selected through the initiative will not remain at the proposal stage. They will be tested in real-world situations, and the lessons from those tests are expected to be shared later with companies affiliated with SILEMG. The process will also examine whether the solutions could be used by other businesses.
FIEMG Lab’s proof-of-concept management methodology will be used, with support from the Instituto Euvaldo Lodi, or IEL. The approach is intended to place the proposed technologies in operating conditions and assess their application to the specific challenges identified by the dairy industry.
The next stages have been scheduled. An online webinar will take place on October 7, when specialists from participating companies will present the challenges and answer technical questions. The selected startups and companies are due to be announced in November at an event held at FIEMG Lab.
The initiative is also set against changes in Brazil’s national dairy production identified in Embrapa’s Anuário Leite 2026. The publication lists innovation, science, technology, climate change and changing consumer habits among the elements shaping that transformation. SILEMG Lab’s stated task is to test technologies against specific industrial problems and determine their practical performance.
Applications remain open until October 13. Proofs of concept are scheduled to begin from 2027. The programme was produced by eDairyNews with information published by SILEMG.
