German agricultural equipment manufacturer Siloking has unveiled an innovative heavy-duty magnet system designed to improve safety and efficiency in dairy cow feeding operations by removing metal debris from conserved feed.
Metal objects, such as nails or mower blades, can pose serious health risks to cows if ingested, often leading to severe injuries or even euthanasia. While traditional mixer wagon magnets can capture such debris, their use often requires operators to enter the mixing tub, exposing them to sharp cutting blades.
Siloking's new concept addresses these challenges, enabling metal removal from outside the mixing tub. The technology earned a silver medal for innovation at the recent EuroTier Show in Europe, underscoring its potential impact on farm safety and operations.

The magnet is permanently mounted at the base of the mixing auger and encased in a stainless-steel housing. Its strength is sufficient to attract and hold objects like nails, mower blades, and tedder tines.
To remove captured debris, operators use an integrated tool to slide the housing away from the magnet, causing the metal objects to simply drop off for safe collection. This eliminates the need for direct contact with the mixing blades and reduces potential risks associated with powerful magnets, such as damaging mobile devices or credit cards.
