Ruto Hosted Abiy Ahmed at Koilel Dairy Farm
President William Ruto received Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu at his Koilel farm in Uasin Gishu county. The report dates the visit to Tuesday, October 20, while accompanying captions refer to October 21.
Abiy and Gebeyehu toured Ruto’s dairy operation after the Mashujaa Day celebrations. Kenya marks Mashujaa Day by honouring people who have contributed to the country’s liberation and development.
The farm is described as one of Ruto’s agricultural investments in Kenya’s North Rift region. The visit gave the Ethiopian prime minister and the IGAD official an opportunity to inspect the dairy enterprise during their time in Uasin Gishu.
Ruto has maintained an interest in agriculture, including dairy farming. Dairy is an important economic activity in Uasin Gishu and neighbouring counties, where the sector includes milk production, processing and related businesses.
The North Rift is one of Kenya’s main agricultural production zones. Dairy farming there supports thousands of households through activities connected with producing and processing milk, as well as other businesses linked to the sector.
The farm visit took place while Kenya and Ethiopia continued discussions on bilateral relations and regional co-operation. Both countries have significant roles in the Horn of Africa, and Gebeyehu attended in his capacity as IGAD’s executive secretary.
