Cheese Production Growth in Russia Did Not Offset Category Decline: Warehouse Stocks Increased by Over 30%
Within the category, diverse dynamics are observed. Cheese production increased by 1.1%, reaching 135.9 thousand tons, while the production of cheese products decreased by 24.1% to 22.8 thousand tons. A similar situation is noted in consumption: the total volume decreased by 1.1% to 1.323 million tons. At the same time, demand for cheese grew by 1.5%, whereas the consumption of cheese products fell by 15.1%.
The decline in interest in the cheaper segment amid growing demand for traditional cheeses reflects structural changes in consumer behavior. However, the key factor in the current situation remains the accumulation of stocks.
As of early March 2026, stocks of cheese products in processors' warehouses increased by 32%, reaching 11.4 thousand tons. The volume of cheese warehouse stocks also significantly exceeded last year's level, with a growth of 31% to 77.6 thousand tons.
