Precision Nutrition Boosts Buffalo Milk Production in Brazil
The Guabi Nutrição e Saúde Animal team has implemented a nutritional strategy at a buffalo farm in Brazil to enhance ruminal health and nutrient absorption. This approach incorporates additives, mycotoxin adsorbents, prebiotics, and probiotics. A key technology used is Agolin, a blend of essential oils that improves feed efficiency by 4.4%, increases milk production by 4%, and reduces methane emissions by 10%.
The farm reported an immediate rise in daily milk production, with an increase of nearly one liter per animal following the adoption of the new feeding strategy. These results were highlighted during the 60th Expass Agro event in Passos, Minas Gerais, on June 28, where a buffalo named Serena set a new world record by producing 40.250 kg of milk, surpassing the previous record of 39.280 kg set by the same farm in 2024.
Serena, a first-calving heifer of pure origin from a partner breeder, exemplifies the farm's success in combining technical management, adjusted nutrition, genetics, and infrastructure investment. The farm operates under a semi-open system, allowing buffalo free access to pasture and feeding troughs.
Beyond milk production, there is growing international interest in the farm's genetics. The farm has received increased inquiries from buyers in Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, and Mexico interested in its embryos.
Thiago Mansfeld, a representative of the farm, emphasizes that the results are due to a combination of factors, including technical management and genetic quality, rather than a single element.
