Performance of the Dairy Sector in Chile's Regions

The dairy sector in Chile shows mixed results across different regions, with Los Lagos and Los Ríos leading in productivity.

The Chilean dairy sector has shown varied performance across its regions, according to data from the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa) as collected by the National Federation of Milk Producers (Fedeleche).
In January 2025, national raw milk production increased by 3.2%, totaling 214.4 million liters. This year-on-year growth represents an increase of 6.7 million liters compared to the same month the previous year.
Los Lagos and Los Ríos were the most productive regions, contributing 84.4% of the total milk reception by the dairy industry.
Production in Los Lagos rose by 2.9% to 104.4 million liters, reinforcing its status as the country's leading dairy region. Meanwhile, Los Ríos saw a growth of 4.3%, amounting to 76.4 million liters, representing 35.7% of national production.
Conversely, the region of La Araucanía recorded a decrease of 0.4%, equivalent to 24 thousand liters, totaling 6.56 million, which accounts for 3.1% of the national milk production. In the central-south zone, outcomes were mixed.
Production in Bio-Bio fell by 4.3% to 10.22 million liters, while Ñuble experienced an increase of 8.2%, reaching 2.18 million liters. Bio-Bio represents 4.8% of total production, with Ñuble contributing 1.0%.
The central zone also presented diverse results.
Valparaíso reported a growth of 6.8% with 8.01 million liters, while the Metropolitan Region increased by 5.8%, totaling 5.21 million. O’Higgins and El Maule registered more moderate increases of 4.2% and 5.2% respectively, adding 1.23 million and 119 thousand liters to national production.
