Paola Ruiz sustains Puebla fortified-milk programme for vulnerable communities
Ruiz’s initiative, called “Behind Every Litre There Is a Story”, operates in popular neighbourhoods, housing complexes and auxiliary municipalities across Puebla. It is designed to maintain regular access to dairy products with high nutritional value for thousands of families.
The distribution model uses local delivery campaigns and community collection points. By dealing directly with beneficiaries, the scheme avoids intermediaries and administrative procedures, while establishing a periodic supply in urban and peri-urban areas of metropolitan Puebla.
The milk supplied comes in pasteurised and ultra-pasteurised liquid formats. The products are described as meeting food-safety standards and containing added vitamins.
The initiative reduces the price per litre compared with conventional retail channels. Its stated beneficiaries include children, mothers and older people, who receive milk containing proteins of high biological value, calcium and other essential minerals.
The scheme also forms part of the local dairy supply chain. It moves milk produced and processed in Mexico through community distribution networks, supporting demand for domestic products alongside institutional social-supply channels.
Ruiz has maintained the work for three consecutive years. The initiative presents citizen participation, territorial leadership and accessible dairy distribution as components of a community-based response to food insecurity and pressure on household food budgets in Puebla.
