Omiros Expands Footprint with Acquisition of Cypriot Dairy Firm

In a strategic move to bolster its presence in international markets, Greek dairy group Omiros announced the acquisition of Cypriot dairy company A. Hadjipieris Ltd. This acquisition, conducted through its subsidiary Omiros Dairies Cyprus, represents a significant step forward for Omiros, particularly in the realm of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products known globally.

The incorporation of A. Hadjipieris Ltd, renowned for its halloumi and traditional sheep’s yoghurt, adds a third production facility to the Omiros portfolio, marking the company’s first expansion beyond Greece. This expansion is a pivotal moment for the third generation of the Giannitsis family, heralding new avenues of innovation and development in the halloumi sector.

Under the guidance of Ioannis Billis, an experienced executive in the dairy industry, the initial €5 million investment phase will focus on expanding and modernising existing facilities to achieve an annual production capacity of 5,500 tonnes of PDO halloumi. Plans for a new state-of-the-art factory with a capacity of 12,000 tonnes are also underway, expected within the next three years.

Total investments over the next five years in Cyprus are projected to reach €30 million, fueling job creation and supporting the local economy. Omiros remains committed to respecting and promoting the authentic character of Cypriot PDO halloumi as it enhances its strategic focus through subsidiaries like Agrolact and Omiros Dairies Cyprus.
