New York dairy farms could soon see relief from milk dumping during emergencies, with a $21.6 million grant initiative announced by Governor Kathy Hochul.
The Dairy Modernization Grant Program, part of Hochul’s 2024 State of the State agenda, aims to boost on-farm milk storage and enhance transport efficiency across New York’s dairy supply chain. Managed by the Farm and Food Growth Fund, the program offers grants from $50,000 to $250,000 to support storage and cooling upgrades, milk transfer improvements, and other farm infrastructure enhancements.
Open for applications until February 14, 2025, the initiative targets New York’s 3,000 dairy farms, a crucial sector in the state’s agricultural economy.
