Nestlé develops N3 milk line with prebiotic fibers

Using proprietary technology, Nestlé reduced lactose using specialized enzymes, resulting in prebiotic fibers that promote "the growth of multiple bifidobacteria by up to three times, providing gut microbiome benefits to healthy adults," the F&B giant said.
Nestlé claims to be the first company to introduce a dairy product containing prebiotic fiber derived from lactose found in milk. The company's experts at its R&D centers in Beijing, China, have adapted the technology locally to provide nutritious dairy products that meet the dietary needs and preferences of local consumers.
Fortified with vitamins, proteins and minerals, the N3 line also includes probiotics to promote bone health, muscle growth, strength and immunity. Plus, it boasts low lactose content and 15% fewer calories.
Stefan Palzer, CTO of Nestlé, said: “We are delighted to introduce this unique science-based innovation, which contains all the key nutrients of milk, but with low lactose and special prebiotic fibers that are associated with various health benefits. This milk will serve as the basis for the next generation of nutritious products that will benefit many consumers, including people with lactose intolerance and those looking to improve their gastrointestinal health. It is also a testament to our efforts to develop cutting-edge technologies that can be applied across categories, brands and geographies.”
“N3 will transform the milk drinking experience for Chinese consumers, allowing people with lactose and gastrointestinal sensitivities to enjoy a glass of nutritious milk without worry. We are proud to be the first market to introduce N3 milk. This further demonstrates Nestlé’s unwavering commitment to continuously innovate for local consumers,” commented David Zhang, CEO of Nestlé Zone Greater China.
At a later stage, the presence of N3 milk will expand to other product categories, allowing Nestlé to contribute to lifelong health and well-being at different stages of life.
