Minnesota Teamsters Secure Labor Contract at AMPI Dairy Plant

Members of Teamsters Local 471 at AMPI Dairy in Paynesville, Minnesota, have successfully ratified their first contract after a strike demanding fair wages, benefits, and job protections. The contract, which spans three years, ensures a 14% wage increase and retroactive pay dating back to March 2025, the time when their bargaining unit was certified. Additionally, the contract allows workers to transition to a Teamsters health insurance plan, which will lower costs for members.

Another significant aspect of the agreement is the inclusion of strong successorship language. This provision guarantees that workers' jobs and union rights are protected if the dairy facility is sold or changes ownership. The strike was a response to prolonged dissatisfaction among workers regarding their lack of protections and voice on the job.

Lyndon Johnson, the Secretary-Treasurer of Local 471, stated, "AMPI workers stood strong to win this strike and ratify their first contract. They secured significant wage increases and language that protects standards if the company is sold or changes ownership." Heidi Barg, an 18-year lab technician at AMPI Dairy, expressed relief and optimism, highlighting the newfound security in planning for the future due to improved pay, healthcare, and job protections.
