Milky Mist Dairy Commissions a 10 MW Solar Plant
Solar capacity
The new installation was added to Milky Mist Dairy Food’s existing 15 MW solar plant at Arasanoor. The company’s renewable portfolio now comprises 25 MW of solar capacity at Arasanoor, 9 MW at Kavilipalayam, 5 MW at Chithode and 2 MW of wind capacity at Kayathar.
Milky Mist has reported an investment of approximately Rs 109.60 crore in the 25 MW Arasanoor solar capacity. The electricity produced there is intended for the company’s manufacturing facility at Perundurai and for milk-chilling centres in several locations.
Generation and emissions
The expanded Arasanoor project is expected to produce about 2 million units of renewable electricity each year. Milky Mist says the project could prevent roughly 16,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and reduce its use of conventional energy sources.
The company began its renewable-energy investments in 2016, commissioning a 2 MW solar plant in that year. It says its renewable assets have since generated around 210 million units of electricity, with an estimated value of about Rs 165 crore. The company also uses biomass in its boilers, operates a steam-turbine system and has installed a methane-gas purification plant. The methane-based system generates approximately 15,000 units of electricity per day, according to Milky Mist.
Financial performance
Standalone revenue from operations reached Rs 973 crore in the first quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 673 crore in the same quarter of FY26. Operating profit rose to Rs 143 crore from Rs 80 crore, while the operating margin increased to 15% from 12%.
Net profit was Rs 64 crore in Q1 FY27, against Rs 6 crore a year earlier. Basic earnings per share increased to Rs 1.00 from Rs 0.09. The company has not disclosed a separate near-term earnings contribution from the newly commissioned solar plant.
