Japan’s Meiji Co. will launch a new functional yogurt designed to support skin health, targeting concerns over UV exposure and dryness, the company said on Saturday.

The Meiji W Skin Care Yogurt, set for nationwide release on March 25, 2025, contains a proprietary blend of SC-2 lactic acid bacteria, collagen peptides, and sphingomyelin, ingredients Meiji says help protect against UV-induced irritation and improve skin moisture levels.
The 112g drinkable yogurt, priced at 156 yen ($1.05) including tax, aligns with consumer demand for convenient, health-focused products, Meiji said.
Clinical trials cited by the company suggest the yogurt may boost skin resistance to UV exposure and enhance hydration, with one study showing increased Minimal Erythema Dose (MED) – a measure of UV tolerance – among 67 female participants aged 30-49. Another trial involving 94 women aged 20-50 found improvements in skin moisture retention.
Meiji’s move reflects a broader industry trend blurring the lines between nutrition and skincare, as consumers seek functional foods offering tangible health benefits.
