Major Russian Companies to Develop Livestock in Kherson Oblast

Major Russian agricultural companies have shown interest in developing livestock in Kherson Oblast. This information was reported by regional governor Vladimir Saldo in an interview with TASS. He stated that the region's agricultural sector is gradually changing its focus after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station and the drying of canals.

Saldo previously stated that the current number of cattle in the region is insufficient. At the end of August, he estimated the herd size at 11,300 and indicated the need to increase livestock numbers in the oblast.

The governor linked the expansion of the livestock sector to the region's historically entrenched agricultural specialization. He noted that livestock farming was one of the farming activities in Kherson Oblast since its incorporation into the Russian Empire.

"Currently, major Russian agricultural companies are showing interest in this direction," Saldo said. According to him, regional authorities do not intend to work with lesser-known companies at this stage, although many such organizations exist.

Saldo reported that major companies, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, are already preparing the groundwork to operate in this direction. He did not specify the names of the companies, project parameters, timelines for implementation, or potential investment volumes.

The governor also emphasized that the federal government and the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia are providing substantial support to the oblast as it shifts its agricultural focus. Other indicators of future livestock development, including planned herd sizes and production capacities, were not provided in the interview.
