Liconsa to Take Over Dairy Facility in Mazatlán

As the dairy sector in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, braces for significant developments, the national milk company Liconsa is poised to sign a lease agreement for the 'El Recreo' cheese facility. President of the Local Cattlemen's Association in Mazatlán, José Antonio Lizárraga Rivera, expressed optimism about the upcoming signing, which is expected next week.

The facility is anticipated to process and distribute up to 10,000 liters of milk daily, highlighting the commitment to support local dairy farmers by potentially offering better compensation for their milk.

Liconsa, known for purchasing milk at competitive rates, is setting up this operation to stabilize the region’s milk prices and provide more equitable payments to producers who currently sell to cheesemakers. Lizárraga Rivera noted that they are working diligently alongside regional governmental support to finalize this pivotal agreement, which will fortify the leading dairy basin in southern Sinaloa.

"The hopes are high," Rivera stated, "to ensure better economic returns for the local dairy producers once the lease for El Recreo facility is formalized."
