Let's imagine the world when dairy reached net zero on carbon emissions

Here is the impact:
1. COOLING EFFECT: Removing cows methan would have a climate cooling effect for the planet.

2. NUTRITION for over 6 billion people who consume dairy on a regular basis. This means less hunger and more people who have nutritioned their bodies/brain to its full potential.

3. LIVELHOOD support for over 1 billion people who make currently income related to milk production.

4. NO NEED to move to plant based dairy alternatives which are more expensive and lower in nutrient value compare to milk.

5. POSITIVE SIDE EFFECTS: Having cows means having manure for energy production and fertiliser for the soil. Moreover having vibrant rural societies and so much more.

How is net zero dairy possible?

1. 40% can come from better farm management and current technologies

2. 35% by scaling up emerging technologies

3. 25% from new technologies arising from fundamental research to be done.

For sure it will not be easy and will involve a lot of work by all players in the dairy chain.

As IFCN Dairy Research Network we are for many years part of the iniative PATHWAYS TO DAIRY NET ZERO.

Thanks Donald Moore from GDP for running P2DNZ and to update us about the iniative in Chicago today.
