Lakeland Dairies Increases Milk Price for September Amid Positive Market Trends

Lakeland Dairies has announced a base milk price increase for September, citing a favorable outlook in global dairy markets through the third quarter. Farmers in the Republic of Ireland (ROI) will receive a base price of 49 cents per litre for milk with 3.6% butterfat and 3.3% protein, which includes a 0.5c/l Sustainability Incentive Payment. This represents a 2.5c/l increase from the previous month.
In Northern Ireland (NI), Lakeland will pay a base price of 40.3p per litre, also inclusive of a 0.5p/l Sustainability Incentive Payment, marking a 2p/l increase over August’s rate. The co-op stated it would “continue to monitor” market conditions and remains committed to supporting farmers.
Winter Feed Support Initiative for Dairy Farmers
To further assist its suppliers, Lakeland Dairies has introduced a dairy feed rebate program aimed at supporting farmers through the winter season. This initiative, applicable from November 2024 to February 2025, will provide a €30 per tonne rebate on all Lakeland Dairies dairy-manufactured feed purchased during this period. The support is designed to aid liquid and winter milk suppliers, particularly those with spring-calving herds, as they navigate the winter dry period and aim to maintain balanced diets following a challenging growing season.
Lakeland Dairies Chairperson Niall Matthews emphasized the value of this initiative for farmers, stating, “Whether you buy one tonne or twenty tonnes, all purchases will be discounted by €30 per tonne. As a farmer-owned co-op, we appreciate the loyalty and support of our farm families and are pleased to offer this additional support to help them through the winter-feeding period.”
