Kraft Introduces Lactose-Free Cheese Line for Dietary Needs
Kraft Natural Cheese has launched a new line of lactose-free cheese products, targeting consumers who are lactose intolerant. This new product line includes Mild Cheddar Shredded Cheese, Mozzarella Shredded Cheese, and Mozzarella String Cheese. The shredded cheeses are available in resealable bags, while the string cheese is sold in individually wrapped portions with 12 sticks per pouch.
The company emphasizes that these products are designed to melt easily, making them suitable for a variety of recipes such as pastas, wraps, salads, and baked potatoes. The string cheese aims to serve as a convenient snack option for those on the go.
Kraft's initiative seeks to provide more options for individuals with dietary restrictions. Dhriti Batra, Director of Kraft Natural Cheese at Lactalis Heritage Dairy, stated in a press release, 'As consumer needs continue to evolve, we are focused on delivering products that make it easier for more people to enjoy the foods they love.'
The lactose-free cheeses are made with added lactase, an enzyme that helps break down lactose, and are often found in lactose-free milk products. Despite the removal of lactose, the nutritional values remain largely unchanged compared to their lactose-containing counterparts. The classic mozzarella string cheese and its lactose-free version both contain 80 calories per serving, though the lactose-free version has an additional gram of total fat.
The shredded cheeses also maintain similar nutritional profiles to their lactose versions, with no significant differences in total fat and calorie content. The new Kraft Natural Cheese Lactose-Free line is currently available at select national retailers, with plans for broader distribution in the upcoming months.
