Herd-i Launches AI Cow Monitoring System in America
Herd-i, a dairy-technology company developed in New Zealand, announced the American launch of its cow-monitoring platform on September 10, 2026. The company made the announcement from Prosper, Texas. Its system is designed to give dairy operators a regular view of individual animals and wider herd patterns as part of the existing milking process.
Cameras positioned in the exit area of a milking parlour capture footage of cows after they have been milked. Herd-i’s proprietary artificial-intelligence software assesses each animal’s locomotion and body condition. The results are presented through a dashboard containing cow-specific scores, herd-level trends and video.
The monitoring takes place during the dairy’s normal daily routine rather than through a separate assessment process. The dashboard is intended to help farm teams identify animals requiring attention and review changes across the herd. Herd-i describes the information as a source of consistent data for decisions concerning herd management.
“Finding people with the right set of skills can be a challenge for dairy producers,” said Nicole Mozeliak, Herd-i’s chief executive in the United States. “Herd-i adds a consistent, objective set of eyes on the herd every day. Producers can quickly see which animals to focus on, while the dairy team spends more time doing the hands-on work.”
For its US entry, Herd-i is seeking 25 dairy operations for the Founding 25 programme. Participating farms are being offered early access to the technology, introductory pricing for founding members and direct contact with the Herd-i team. The programme also includes membership of a group of producers involved in the company’s expansion in the United States.
Herd-i was established in 2021 and focuses on monitoring dairy-herd health and performance. Its in-parlour camera system automatically produces locomotion and body-condition scores after every milking, with the information available through a customisable dashboard. The company says that its system currently monitors 145,000 cows each day and serves producers in New Zealand and the United States.
