Greenpeace challenges Fonterra's '100% New Zealand grass-fed' label on Anchor butter, alleging misleading claims, as Fonterra defends its position.
Greenpeace Challenges Fonterra Over 'Grass-Fed' Claim on Anchor Butter

Greenpeace has taken a stand against Fonterra Brands, claiming that newly unveiled legal documents indicate the dairy giant has removed controversial labels from its Anchor butter packaging. These labels previously asserted that Fonterra dairy cows are '100% New Zealand grass-fed', a claim Greenpeace argues is misleading.

The environmental advocacy group suggests that the removal of these labels may imply an acknowledgment of their inaccuracy in representing the diet of Fonterra's dairy cows.

However, Fonterra has issued a robust defense, reiterating its commitment to the 'grass-fed' claim associated with its Anchor butter brand. The dairy cooperative argues that their suppliers' cows are primarily nourished by a diet consisting of grass and pasture-related feeds such as grass silage, hay, and forage crops.

Despite the legal challenge, Fonterra remains resolute in standing by its assertions regarding the grass-fed nature of its butter. The company has declared that it will persist in defending itself vigorously against these allegations in court, abstaining from making additional comments while the proceedings are underway.
