Government and Local Authorities Support Dairy Farmers in Jalisco

A collaborative initiative between the municipality of Juanacatlán and the Jalisco State Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) has resulted in the co-financing of a state-of-the-art milk cooling tank. This equipment is intended to enhance the quality and profitability of dairy production in the region.

The investment agreement, signed by Juanacatlán's mayor Ana Vergara, is directed at the San Isidro milk producers' cooperative. This cooperative has been a key player in the local livestock sector for over 40 years and now receives a significant technical boost to optimize the processing and preservation of fresh milk.

During a supervisory visit by Eduardo 'Lalo' Ron Ramos, head of SADER in Jalisco, a meeting was held with local farmers to address priority issues such as health standards, fixed costs, and transport logistics. This direct dialogue allowed for the alignment of state policies with the actual needs of production units.

The core of the agreement is the acquisition of a new milk cooling tank, which is crucial for reducing microbiological contamination risks and ensuring the value of the milk's solid content. The funding model is structured with the state government contributing 70% of the necessary funds, while the Juanacatlán municipality covers the remaining 30%.

Technical advisors and dairy economy analysts agree that immediate cold storage after milking is essential for maintaining the milk's physical-chemical properties and meeting industrial safety standards. The introduction of automated technology in barns helps prevent product deterioration, providing families with greater commercial stability and a competitive edge in the regional market.

Mayor Ana Vergara emphasized the ongoing management of resources and programs to modernize Juanacatlán's agricultural sector transparently. The cooperative efforts between various government levels and private associations aim to secure local dairy farmers' income and stabilize the supply of inputs, which is crucial for the nation's food sovereignty.
