Google reports growing Brazilian interest in protein and vitamin B12
A survey by Maximum Boxing of Brazilian Google searches over the past 12 months placed fibre first among nutrients, with 247,000 searches. Vitamin B12 followed with 207,000, ahead of protein at 149,000 and iron at 143,000.
Vitamin B12 is found mainly in animal-based foods, including meat, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products. Dairy products were also listed among the sources of protein, alongside meat, eggs, fish, beans and other legumes.
The four leading nutrients accounted for 70% of all nutrient-related searches recorded in the survey. The report linked searches for fibre, B12, protein and iron with digestion, satiety, energy, muscular strength and physical disposition.
Other nutrients in the ranking included vitamin D, with 117,000 searches; magnesium, with 81,000; zinc, with 67,000; potassium, with 55,000; calcium, with 48,000; and vitamin A, with 36,000. The survey associated these items with more specific symptoms.
Among food-related goals, “foods for muscle gain” was the most searched category, with 222,000 queries. “Foods for weight loss” recorded 112,000 searches. The report placed the interest in muscle gain alongside searches for protein and B12, both of which are present in milk and dairy products.
Other goal-based searches included “foods for anaemia”, at 145,000; “foods to lower cholesterol”, at 128,000; “foods to relieve constipation”, at 87,000; “foods to increase immunity”, at 100,000; “foods for diarrhoea”, at 69,000; and “foods for gastritis”, at 46,000.
