GEA Launches CowScout Cloud for Australian Dairy Herds
GEA Farm Technologies launched CowScout Cloud across Australia on August 23, extending its CowScout digital monitoring system with centralised cloud data management. The platform is intended for dairy producers and veterinary advisers and provides access to herd information through web and mobile interfaces.
CowScout Cloud records individual animals’ rumination, eating time and physical activity, alongside other health indicators. It compares current behaviour with established patterns and produces separate health and heat scores. GEA says this allows farmers to identify cows approaching estrus and animals showing signs of metabolic disorders before visible symptoms appear in the milking parlour.
The system generates daily worklists and reporting tools for farm staff. Automated identification of cows requiring attention is designed to reduce the time spent manually drafting animals and to support the timing of artificial insemination. The source describes the platform as providing information for reproductive management, animal-health monitoring and day-to-day farm operations.
The service stores historical data without a stated limit, allowing users to review genetic and physical information over time. Its dashboards can cover several farms, a feature aimed at corporate groups and operators managing multiple sites. GEA positioned these functions for Australian commercial dairies, where farms are becoming larger and labour shortages remain an issue.
Because processing takes place in the cloud, the platform receives automatic software updates and does not require complex server maintenance on the farm. CowScout Cloud is designed to work alongside existing dairy systems rather than replace them. It connects with GEA DairyNet, the company’s herd and parlour-management software, as well as with third-party farm programs and drafting gates used to sort cows during milking.
Andrew Stansfield, country manager of GEA Farm Technologies Australia and New Zealand, said the platform provides scalable digital infrastructure for herd expansion while supporting individual-cow welfare. CowScout Cloud is available for new installations and for existing users of CowScout collars or ear sensors through GEA’s Australian dealer network. The company said the system is available across the country’s pasture and hybrid dairy sectors.
