FrieslandCampina Ingredients secures health claims from FSANZ

FrieslandCampina Ingredients has successfully obtained 16 health claim approvals fr om the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), including 12 specific for its Biotis Fermentis ingredient targeted at the active and sports nutrition market. Further claims were approved for Biotis GOS and Vivinal GOS, particularly regarding their roles in enhancing iron and calcium absorption in individuals over one year old.
These authorizations reinforce FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ stance as a leader in science-backed nutrition, especially relevant to the athletic community wh ere the gut-muscle axis plays a crucial role. Approximately 86% of athletes report gastrointestinal issues due to training and competition stressors, underlining the importance of these health insights.
"Sport is integral to the cultural fabric of Australia and New Zealand, with more than a third of Australians engaging regularly in fitness activities," remarks Vicky Davies, the company’s global marketing director. The FSANZ approvals are pivotal in helping brands highlight the interaction between gut health and athletic performance.
Additionally, the functionality of GOS in mineral absorption has been acknowledged, with FSANZ recognizing its role in reducing intestinal pH, thereby making minerals such as iron and calcium more soluble and absorbable.
