Freshways Expands into Wales with Acquisition of Totally Welsh Dairy
Totally Welsh, founded in 1990, is well-known for sourcing high-quality milk fr om local farmers within a 40-mile radius of its Pembrokeshire bottling plant. The company is also recognized for its sustainability efforts, notably through the use of reusable glass milk bottles.
The acquisition will enhance Freshways’ product offerings and its footprint, particularly in South Wales, wh ere Totally Welsh serves about 7,400 doorstep delivery customers in Cardiff and Swansea. In addition, Totally Welsh supplies milk and dairy products to schools, wholesalers, and retailers.
Freshways also highlighted the new glass bottling line at Totally Welsh’s facility, which has the capacity to produce one million pints per week, marking a significant milestone in the UK dairy industry. This capability will now support Milk & More’s doorstep delivery service, following Freshways' decision not to utilize the Hanworth glass bottling plant in west London.
With this acquisition, Freshways strengthens its commitment to sustainability by expanding its range of refillable glass-bottled milk and renewable cartons. Freshways MD Bali Nijjar expressed excitement about the acquisition, noting that it would support local Welsh farmers and allow the company to meet the growing demand for sustainable dairy products.
Mark Hunter, owner of Totally Welsh, emphasized that the sale would ensure future growth and development for the brand, while continuing to support its dedicated workforce.
