Fonterra's ambitious $75 million plan to expand its Studholme factory near Waimate is maintaining momentum, boasting both timely progress and financial efficiency. According to the dairy giant, the expansion is integral for ramping up the production of high-value proteins.

As of now, the foundational structures, including the walls, are completed, advancing the site’s capabilities to better serve the demand for high-value dairy ingredients globally. Fonterra Studholme site manager, Alan Maitland, shared that the construction was proceeding as scheduled with the first product line expected to launch in 2026.

This strategic development not only strengthens Fonterra’s network but also creates six new jobs at the site, signaling the company's commitment to future growth amid challenging economic landscapes, praised by local and regional leaders such as Waimate District's mayor, Craig Rowley, and Venture Timaru's CEO, Nigel Davenport.

Fonterra's President of Global Markets Ingredients, Richard Allen, emphasized the increasing global demand for high-protein dairy products, which is expected to rise by approximately 7% annually, reaching near NZ$16 billion. The enhancements at Studholme are anticipated to bolster Fonterra's offerings to existing customers while attracting new business, reinforcing its role as a pivotal player in the dairy industry.
