FARM Program Unveils Enhanced Environmental Assessment Platform to Support Industry's Carbon Neutrality Goals
Enhanced Capabilities for Environmental Impact Assessment
The new version incorporates the sophisticated Ruminant Farm System (RuFaS) model, providing dairy operators with unprecedented capabilities to evaluate their environmental footprint and simulate various operational scenarios. Developed by a nationwide team of researchers and software engineers, including experts from Dairy Management Inc., RuFaS employs process-based modeling to track biological, physical, and chemical flows throughout farm operations.

"Environmental Stewardship Version 3 represents a pivotal advancement in dairy's sustainability journey," states Nicole Ayache, National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) Chief Sustainability Officer. "This update exemplifies our industry's dedication to equipping farmers with state-of-the-art scientific tools as they pursue operational excellence and innovation."

Key Features and Improvements
The platform offers several notable enhancements over its predecessors:

Advanced carbon sequestration estimation capabilities
Detailed analysis of environmental impacts on milk productivity
Optional data input fields for reproductive programs, culling information, and cropping practices
More refined and granular environmental footprinting
Enhanced scenario analysis capabilities for technology and practice assessment

Implementation and Feedback Process
FARM is actively seeking stakeholder input to optimize Version 3's functionality. Farmers and evaluators can submit feedback through online forms, and the organization plans to conduct stakeholder webinars to facilitate discussions about the new platform. Dairy operators interested in accessing the platform can contact their FARM Program evaluator or reach out to dairyfarm@nmpf.org.
