Evonik launches Lypron for more efficient ruminant feeding
Lypron is intended to deliver metabolizable lysine beyond the rumen, allowing nutritionists to balance amino-acid supply more precisely. Evonik said the product is designed to support livestock performance, improve feed efficiency and reduce reliance on costly protein ingredients.
Lysine is an essential amino acid and can be a limiting nutrient in ruminant diets. When the supply of metabolizable lysine is insufficient, animals may be less able to use other nutrients efficiently or reach their production potential. Lypron is formulated to provide a consistent supply of the amino acid after it passes through the rumen.
The product is intended to complement Evonik’s existing Mepron solution. Together, the products are positioned as part of a broader approach to balancing amino acids in ruminant feed. Marion Hax, head of the Specialty Nutrition Product Line at Evonik Animal Nutrition, said the launch broadens the company’s offering and supports customers seeking improved animal performance and more sustainable feeding practices.
Feed formulation and nitrogen management
Feed is a major operating cost for dairy farms and other livestock businesses. By supplying lysine in a protected form, Lypron is designed to help formulate diets that meet animals’ amino-acid requirements without depending as heavily on protein-rich ingredients. The scope for cost savings will vary with the animal’s production stage, the existing ration, ingredient prices and the product’s inclusion rate.
Evonik also presents the product as an option for lower-protein rations and feeding programmes with less reliance on soy-based ingredients. A better match between amino-acid supply and animal requirements can support the formulation of diets with less excess protein. When protein intake exceeds requirements, some nitrogen may be excreted rather than used for production; the effect of any revised ration will depend on its full composition and on farm conditions.
Claudia Parys, global head of Evonik Animal Nutrition’s Ruminant Business, said Lypron helps nutritionists optimise amino-acid supply, support productivity and reduce dependence on excess dietary protein. Evonik describes the product as non-GMO, a characteristic relevant to markets and supply chains with requirements for GMO-free production. The company said the product adds another option within the wider move towards precision nutrition, in which rations are formulated around specific amino-acid needs rather than higher crude-protein levels alone.
