Dominican Republic will modernise more than 300 milk-processing plants

The programme will focus on small facilities involved in milk processing across the Dominican Republic. Its stated aims include improving workplace conditions, introducing suitable equipment and expanding technical training for people working in the plants.

Rivero announced the initiative during a visit to the Engombe Dairy Plant with Jorge Asjana David, rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). The plant is supported by the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (CONALECHE), working with the university’s Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences.

The Engombe facility forms part of NOPROLAC’s strategy for transforming the Dominican cheese-making sector. The partnership includes capabilities for testing milk and dairy products, conducting quality controls and providing technical instruction.
