Danone Revamps Danimals with New Formulation and Educational Initiatives

The iconic children's yogurt brand Danimals, under the parent company Danone, has undergone significant changes to cater to modern consumer demands for healthier, more transparent food options. Anne Laraway, Danone’s Head of Kids Brands in North America, announced these changes at MVP Dairy in Ohio, highlighting a new formulation and educational outreach aimed at meeting caregiver expectations for convenience, transparency, and nutrition.

Danone has reformulated Danimals to reduce the total sugar content by 25% compared to its previous recipe, while eliminating artificial flavors, colors, and high-fructose corn syrup. The new formula includes an addition of 3 grams of fiber, qualifying it as a good source of this nutrient, along with vitamin D and calcium.

Laraway emphasized that the nutritional benefits offered by Danimals begin at the farm level. The milk used in Danimals is sourced from MVP Dairy, which adheres to regenerative agricultural practices and is Non-GMO Project Verified. These practices include no-till farming, precision irrigation, and maintaining high standards of animal welfare.

Beyond product reformulation, Danimals is expanding its role as a nutritional resource through the 'Let Them Be Giant' Summer Pledge. This initiative includes educational tools like the 'Building Blocks of Nutrition' Magna-Tiles set, designed to help families understand the importance of nutrients such as calcium and vitamin D for children's growth.

Laraway noted that the initiative is about setting up growth and development through nutrition, aligning with the needs of nutrition-conscious caregivers. This strategy also serves as a case study for the broader industry on how product reformulation and transparency can enhance brand trust and credibility.
