Danone Expands YoPro High-Protein Yoghurt Brand into New Zealand

Danone’s New Zealand launch includes YoPro yoghurt pouches and pots made at the company’s facility in Victoria’s Kiewa Valley, Australia. The standard products contain 15 grams of protein per serving, while the performance range provides 20 grams per unit.

The formulations contain no added sugar or artificial sweeteners, according to Danone. The products use concentrated dairy proteins and are positioned for consumers seeking protein-focused options alongside exercise and everyday diets.

Retail distribution

Foodstuffs North Island has secured exclusive distribution of the range in New Zealand. The agreement places YoPro across the retailer’s supermarket banners, including Pak’nSave and New World.

The New Zealand introduction follows YoPro’s first Australasian launch in 2017. Danone said the brand is entering a market for active-nutrition products that has been recording double-digit growth.

Danone’s regional portfolio

The launch forms part of Danone’s wider activity in the Oceania dairy business. The company has moved to acquire Made Group, which owns the fresh dairy brand The Collective, and has agreed to purchase the remaining 49% stake in its Australian fresh dairy joint venture with Saputo Dairy Australia.

YoPro products sold in New Zealand will be supplied from the Australian processing site across the Tasman Sea. The arrangement uses existing manufacturing capacity in Victoria for the New Zealand retail market, without a separate production facility being identified in the launch information.
